Top Dawg of the House

Friendly faces are my specialty!

One of the latest commissions that I've just finished is this large American Bulldog mascot for Jarvis Christian College in Texas.
Overall size is 37.5" high X 24" wide X 48.5" long.

Large American Bulldog Mascot Underway

Because I normally only show my finished mascots I'm often asked how I get my mascot sculptures to their final finish. So, in response to this often asked question, I'm showing during this and the last posting, the mascots while they are going thru their foam sculpting phase where I'll block out their basic anatomy while trying to get the pose that I'm looking for. Most of the time, I'll end up adding and subtracting foam many times until I'm ready to go to the next fabrication phase. Pictured above the rough-in phase with the chainsaw and files are almost complete on the model. This is a fairly large sculpture with the overall length at approximately four feet. Once I get what I want the clay will be applied as I prepare for the final sculpting/fabrication.

Here is the face after refining the clay sculpt. The collar has been beefed up and detailed. Now to the rest of the body.

Final Detail Foam Carving On Gigantic Bulldog Mascot

The Dawg has come out of his house for awhile. I built this building a few feet away from my main shop a few months ago especially with large mascot fabricating in mind. It allows me to enjoy the nice sunny days and when it gets rainy or cold I just go inside and walk around on platforms. I'd much rather be out in the open with the sunshine though!

What a beautiful and kind face!

Making a few detail cuts with an electric chainsaw.

Doing the same detailing again. Just in case you might be wondering what's that thing protruding from the dog collar under the jaw ... it's a small crowbar that I use to attach to the stainless steel armature tubing that comes out there so that I can wheel the dawg in and out of his temporary house.

I'm doing a little filing with a stainless steel microplane cutter. This model has already been scanned and CNC'd to give me the primary form from which I'll work from as the fabrication/sculpting/detailing phases progress.

Life Size Cougar Mascot Commission Installation

Here is the life size cougar on the steel plate after being anchored to a pre-existing concrete pedestal base at JC Carson High School, NC that I had to design and fabricate this piece to fit. Below are some extra photos of the final stages of the fabrication and finishing.

Here is the completed cougar mounted to the 1/4" steel plate and ready for transport.

Picture above and below are pics of the almost finished cougar mascot just prior to the plate being welded on. These pics were shot in the bright sunlight with a flash to help with the shadows versus the top photo being shot in the late evening with no flash which shows how much the available light really affects a polished bronze finish. This mascot will be mounted outside.

Mountain Lion/Cougar Desktop Mascot Statue

I was recently commissioned to design and sculpt a life size cougar for a school that had an existing pedestal base that they wanted the mascot statue to fit within. Due to the limited space the only real choice was for a sitting pose. These are the pics of the model that I'll use to enlarge from this clay sculpture to a life size.

However, I have decided that I'm going to come back to this model and do some additional sculpting before I finalize it for a desktop size mascot casting in the very near future. If you are interested in more info for pre-cast prices please contact me @336-752-2956 or email to snarlingcrow@yahoo.com. All of these castings will have a cold cast bronze polished patina. I left plenty of space around the base for brass plates or similar extras to be added.

Overall measurements (including round base): 18" wide X 18" deep X 15 1/2" high

One-Of-A-Kind Patriot Mascot Statue

I was commissioned a few months ago for a mascot statue that was to be actually put to use at football games next year. When I designed the piece my overall conception was that a Patriot soldier would be taking cover behind a column preparing to return fire.

The school's plan for this mascot statue is to build a special cart in which the mascot sculpture is going to be pulled around on the sidelines during the game.
That's a pretty cool idea!

Maybe an undefeated season for next year's football team will be the result!
There is still a few touch-ups to be finished and the lettering may be replaced with the same bronze color as the rest of the mascot statue but for the most part this hand buffed and polished one-of-a-kind Patriot mascot statue is a finished piece.

Overall dimensions: 52.25" high x 32.375" wide x 14.375" deep
